Film Representation: Django Unchained

In the film "Django Unchained," white people are portrayed as in power, rich, wealthy and snobby. This is shown where Leonardo Dicaprio turns to look at the camera, smoking a cigarette, on a sofa in front of a fire place. This suggests that he is rich and wealthy because only people who could afford cigarettes could smoke
them. Furthermore, it would have costed a lot of money to buy tobacco cigarettes, so you would have had to be very rich and wealthy to afford them. Also, the clothes that he was wearing were red and looked like they cost a lot of money. This suggests that he is wealthy because of the expensive looking clothes that he was wearing also.To afford these expensive clothes in those times, you needed to be very rich and wealthy because of the material and quality. Black people are portrayed as weak. This is shown throughout the whole film as the black people are shown as slaves because during those times black people were slaves. However, they are also shown as powerful as the hero of the film, Jamie Fox, is killing people who have done him wrong which shows him as powerful. Non-Americans are portrayed as skilled and heroic. This is showed where the German character, Christoph Waltz, saves Django and kills the slave owners within a matter of seconds.
