News programmes coverage on the election

Case Study: News Angles

1.      The angle of a news story is their views that they have, for example, most newspapers will focus on the British side of things.
2.       Tabloids usually have less serious stories compared to broadsheets which have more sophisticated stories and English.
3.      BBC Three’s news bulletin “60 Seconds”
4.      BBC News at 6
5.      International is around the world, national news is news around the UK, regional is around London, Scotland etc

Sky news Election story

1.      This news is regional because it is mainly about London
2.      This takes a British angle on the news as the news clip is only about British people.
3.      Broadsheet
4.      18-80 Year olds

STV Coverage on the Election

1.      This is regional because it’s about London
2.      The angle which is taken is British
3.      This is more broadsheet
4.      I think people aged 30 and up would watch this report

Channel 4 Coverage

1.      National
2.      A British angle
3.      Broadsheet

4.      18-80 year olds that are Scottish citizens

2)     The two anchors are standing in front of the desks to connect with audience so that it makes it feel like someone is right in front of you, having a conversation about the news.
3)     The technology on set is visible (2 television). I think that they did this to show that the show is more modern rather than more traditional and old fashioned.
4)     The studio uses purple a lot to show that you are watching Channel 4 News and not any other TV News programme.

How news stories are typically presented

1)     The anchors presents a news story by standing in front of the screen so that a relevant picture appears on the screens when talking about a news story.
2)     The channel will go to a medium close up on one of the anchors when talking about a specific story, however, when a reporter is speaking from a different country, they only record his chest up, instead of waist up when in the studio.

TV News and new/digital media
1)      The broadcast does have a dedicated website.

Music Video Treatment

Hoodie Allen- Act My Age

Scene 1

As two teenagers walk along the pavement of Greenford Broadway, talking about what they are going to do to spend the sunny day. The camera, in a first person point of view, switches between the two teens as the walk along the pavement of the library.

Scene 2

The camera fades and pans to places around Greenford Broadway in which they could go to. Then the camera fades to where the two teenagers walk towards the park where they mess around, again, in a first person view.

Scene 3

After exiting the park, one of the two teens looks to the other and says that he is hungry and they then walk to a fast food restaurant (KFC). They then walk into the restaurant, eat and then walk out after.

Scene 4

After walking out of the restaurant, one of the teenagers looks at his wrist, pretending that its a watch (for slight aspect of comedy). The camera then cuts to when the two average teenagers are making their journey back to their houses.

Applying Theory's:

Todorov: Equilibrium

The 3 part structure to the trailer of my chosen film is: Christoph Waltz saves Jamie Fox from a slave owner and kills them, Christoph Waltz and Jamie Fox hunt for Jamie Fox's wife by searching every cotton plantation. They find his wife but, in an unfortunate turn of events, Christoph Waltz ends up getting shot dead, restoring the balance to the equilibrium.

Propp: Character types

The character types shown in the trailer are: main protagonist (Jamie Fox) who theatres Django, the person who rescues Django and helps him rescue his wife from the mentor/Helper/donor

(Christoph Waltz), Villain/Antagonist (Leonardo DiCaprio) and a heroine (Jamie Fox's "wife")

Barthes: Enigma code

The enigmas that could be thought of are: Does Django get his wife back? Does he or Christoph Waltz die? These questions could intrigue the audience and make them want to watch this film.

Barthes: Action code

Action codes in this trailer are: when blood splatters all over the cotton, the audience could be thinking who dies, and did he make the shot. Another action code is when the pair are riding to get to a plantation. The audience may be thinking where are they going, do they make it there.

Film Representation: Django Unchained

In the film "Django Unchained," white people are portrayed as in power, rich, wealthy and snobby. This is shown where Leonardo Dicaprio turns to look at the camera, smoking a cigarette, on a sofa in front of a fire place. This suggests that he is rich and wealthy because only people who could afford cigarettes could smoke
them. Furthermore, it would have costed a lot of money to buy tobacco cigarettes, so you would have had to be very rich and wealthy to afford them. Also, the clothes that he was wearing were red and looked like they cost a lot of money. This suggests that he is wealthy because of the expensive looking clothes that he was wearing also.To afford these expensive clothes in those times, you needed to be very rich and wealthy because of the material and quality. Black people are portrayed as weak. This is shown throughout the whole film as the black people are shown as slaves because during those times black people were slaves. However, they are also shown as powerful as the hero of the film, Jamie Fox, is killing people who have done him wrong which shows him as powerful. Non-Americans are portrayed as skilled and heroic. This is showed where the German character, Christoph Waltz, saves Django and kills the slave owners within a matter of seconds.

Film Trailer and Poster analysis

1)This is the poster for "Django Unchained"  This is the trailer for my chosen                                                                                           film.

4) The key poster conventions that I can find are: The central image and secondary images; The title; The slogan; The release date; The main stars of the film and the production blurb.

5)In the trailer, you see the director, short key moments that introduce key     characters,on screen text, institutional details (Studios etc.) and music that communicates the genre of the film.

   6) In my opinion, I think that the poster and trailer do promote my chosen film because the trailer says that "Directed by Quintin Tarantino" which promotes the film because people will know who the director and will want to see the film because of his other works which people may have liked so they may want to see his latest films.

The poster promotes the film because of the cast. Christoph Waltz. Being a German actor, could attract a German audience because, he is a German actor and when people see that he is in "Django Uunchained," they would see that a German actor is in a Hollywood film.
